The “snake eyes” piercing is an oral piercing we at Master Pierce strongly advise against. This piercing is a fad, and like many fad piercings, it carries multiple risks that make it unsafe.

There is a high risk of rejection, cracking, and even chipping of teeth. The piercing connects two tongue muscles, preventing independent movement. This restriction can cause speech issues and difficulties with eating.

The tongue is a resilient muscle, and it often forces out the curved barbell as a foreign object. This process leaves behind a tract of scar tissue. Healing usually takes two to three months for stabilization. During that time, beads can snag on objects. In some cases, the entire piece of jewelry may tear out.

A standard tongue piercing is safer because piercers place it in tissue that can also be safely cut for tongue bifurcation. The body adapts to this piercing more easily, which makes healing smoother.

Fad piercings often fade quickly in popularity, while traditional piercings endure because they are safer and more reliable. Although the snake eyes piercing may trend again, Master Pierce will not offer it.
