At least three times a day, someone asks us: “Do daith piercings cure migraines?” The short answer is no. There is no medical research proving that daith piercings cure migraines. The long answer is more complicated.

The idea comes from acupuncture, a common migraine treatment. In sessions, acupuncturists target a pressure point in the daith. A piercing in this area mimics the effect by using jewelry to apply constant pressure, which many believe provides continuous migraine relief.

Some people with migraines do report symptom relief after receiving a daith piercing. However, the evidence is anecdotal. No scientific research supports daith piercings as a reliable migraine treatment.

Any results are usually linked to the placebo effect. Relief is psychological and temporary, rather than physical. That said, the placebo effect can still be powerful. For this reason, we often tell clients it may be worth trying if they are curious.
