Whether you are new to piercings or already have several, you should always trust a professional to perform body modifications. Choosing an experienced piercer ensures safety, hygiene, and quality results. While not required, an APP Member piercer commits to high standards of safety and jewelry quality. Membership also shows that the piercer pursues continuing education and has been vetted by the Association of Professional Piercers.

What Is the APP?

The Association of Professional Piercers (APP) is a voluntary health and safety organization in the body piercing industry. The APP provides members with access to education on sterilization, safe piercing environments, and professional conduct. They also require the use of safe, high-quality jewelry in fresh piercings.

Questions to Ask Your Piercer

Do not be afraid to ask questions during your consultation. Important things to consider include:

  • Is the piercing studio set up for safe procedures?

  • If inside a tattoo shop, is the piercing room separated?

  • Do they use a medical-grade autoclave for sterilization?

  • Do they dispose of needles in a sharps container?

  • Is the shop clean and organized?

  • Do they use scientifically proven, body-safe jewelry?

APP Membership Certificates

The APP does not license or certify piercers, but it issues certificates of membership. Members must renew these certificates each year and display them inside the studio. APP membership certificates are printed vertically, while health and safety seminar certificates appear horizontally. The APP also gives members access to valuable resources such as procedure manuals, online courses, and apprenticeship guidelines.

Choosing a Reputable Piercer

Any reputable piercer should be transparent about their training and safety procedures. They should offer a consultation to inspect your anatomy, discuss jewelry options, and explain the procedure. They should also cover potential risks, the healing process, and aftercare instructions. If a piercer does not provide this information, or if you are unimpressed with their qualifications, think twice before proceeding.

Master Pierce Commitment

As an APP studio, Master Pierce fulfills all obligations required by the Association—and more. Client safety and jewelry quality remain our top priorities. Our piercers answer every client’s questions before, during, and after the procedure.

Studio integrity is taken seriously, and every piercer is held to the highest standards. Because of this, clients know they can always trust Master Pierce with their body modifications.
